By BERNARD O'NEILL (IABA - PRO)

Murphy, of the East Side BC in Belfast, produced a fantastic displays despite losing 4-0 out to reigning AIBA World light-welterweight champion Gulsum Tatar of Turkey.
And Drimnagh BC ace Kavanagh dominated all four rounds versus Ulrika Brukner but lost 2-1. The German middleweight earned her two points after Kavanagh received a harsh public warning for slapping in the second round.

Fundraising Event - Kildare County Boxing Board
The Kildare County Boxing Board is holding a Fundraising Boxing Tournament on Saturday night, August 7th, in the Army Gymnasium, Curragh Army Camp, Co. Kildare. All proceeds from the night go to Stephen Connolly & Family who had their home destroyed in a fire. Stephen Connolly has been a loyal servant to boxing and boxers at club level in Kildare, at County, Provincial and National level. He is the current Registrar of the National Association and has worked tirelessly to promote the sport at all levels. This tournament is our way, as a County Board, of giving something back to a man who himself has given so much.

The night will consist of a Kildare Select versus an Ulster Commonwealth Team Select. Some of Ireland's top boxers will be on display on the night as a host of Irish Champions take to the ring. These will include Eric Donovan, Tommy McCarthy, Denis Hogan, John Joe Joyce, Paddy Gallagher, Eamon O'Kane, Gavin Keating, David Oliver Joyce, Fergal Redmond and Ross Hickey. Alan Phelan will make his long awaited return to a Kildare ring when he is paired off with the hotly fancied Sean McComb (Holy Trinity, Belfast). Phelan has just returned from the USA where he was training in the professional gyms with some of America's top boxers. This is one contest worth waiting for! Also on the night, two of our top female boxers in the county will pair off in an exhibition. They are Shanice Just (Grangecon B.C.) and Dervla Duffy (Ryston B.C.).
Doors open at 7.30pm and boxing starts at 8pm. Tickets for this fundraiser are €20 and can be purchased from any club in Kildare or from any County Board Secretary throughout the country. Admission of €20 is also payable at the door on the night. A raffle will also take place on the night and patrons are again asked to support.
