Arab Military Sports Games
On October 10th, AIBA President C K Wu attended the Opening Ceremony of the Inaugural Arab Military Sports Games in Damascus and was warmly greeted by 12 National Boxing Federations, as a total of 20 Arabic countries gathered to compete in 10 exciting sports over 10 days.
From October 10th to 20th, Syria is holding the first-ever Arab Military Sports Games and the sport of boxing is no doubt one of the major disciplines and attractions of the Games. President Wu joined the Technical Meeting on the 11th with representatives from the 12 National Boxing Federations participating in this event. In his remarks to the Member Federations, Dr Wu mentioned that he was very glad to see that the development of Boxing in Arabic countries is indeed growing rapidly and that all the facilities for boxing competition and training are well maintained. During the Technical Meeting, President Wu also encouraged the development of women’s boxing, explaining the concept of WSB, and AIBA development programs such as the Boxing Academy. Many of the representatives at the meeting expressed their appreciation for President’s attendance as it was the first time for the National Member Federations from the Arabic countries to meet face to face with an AIBA President in the Arabic region.
President Wu also visited the Syrian Olympic Committee and gave his full support for the development of boxing in Syria, as the Syrian Olympic Committee President – Brig. Gen. Mowaffak Joumaa – regards boxing as an important national sport in Syria.
With a total of 2600 athletes competing in the spirit of peace and sport, the boxing competition started from October 12th and will conclude with the on October 18th.
