Olympic Boxing Updates
WSB - Some of the world's top boxers were today drafted into twelve World Series of Boxing (WSB) squads following an International Boxer Draft, held in London. Following the boxer draft the Team Draw was held to determine the final competition schedule, revealing when the teams will compete against each other in their conference from the start of the WSB Regular Season on November 19th this year.
In total 87 boxers from around the world were chosen by the franchises to make up their quota of international boxers to start the first WSB season. Big names drafted today included the Ukrainian National Champion Sergiy Derevyanchenko, chosen by the Milan franchise, the popular Irish Olympic silver medallist Kenny Egan who heads to the Miami squad and German National Champion Ronny Beblik, who joins WSB Boston.
The Malta Boxing Federation – launch new emblem and slogan – The local boxing federation representing, Olympic Boxing in the Maltese Islands has recently launched a new emblem which features the eight pointed cross – This cross is very closely linked to Maltese history.
The slogan of the Maltese Olympic Body – as published on face book - To restore integrity to the Olympic sport of amateur boxing in the Islands of Malta by up holding a strict code of ethics and striving to increase the level and ability of our boxing athletes in a clean and healthy environment
The Maltese cross or Amalfi cross is identified as the symbol of an order of Christian warriors known as the Knights Hospitaller or Knights of Malta and through them came to be identified with the Mediterranean island of Malta and is one of the National symbols of Malta. The Maltese cross was depicted on the two mils coin in the old Maltese currency, and is now shown on the back of the one and two Euro coins, introduced in January 2008.
The I & J Amateur Boxing Club (Mosta, Malta) have confirmed the venue for September's Inter Club International. The tournament which will be organised by I & J Fitness Team in Mosta, and will be held at the 5 Star luxury 'Excelsior Grand Hotel'
