Malta takes Bronze

Zak Farrugia becomes the first boxer in the history of Malta to take a medal at a high level boxing tournament. This happened at the "Mohamed the Sixth Box Cup" which was held in Morocco and had thirteen nations participating in this prestigious international tournament.

Zak who is the son of Stephen Farrugia who is him self an accomplished athlete and also an Olympian of the 1988 Korean Games, has become the first person to take a bronze medal in this noble and Olympic sport.

This is the first time that this sport has been able to raise the Maltese flag on the international platform.

Malta's participation and success in this tournament was made possible through the support of the St Julian's Boxing Club and the help of several people and coaches out side of Malta.

It is a know fact that former MBF General Secretary Alexander Zammit had been under siege for months by some committee members of the MBF who were totally against the participation of Malta's young boxers at this type of high level competition. The boys who participated in this competition deserve every bit of praise they can get, they trained hard and on a full time bases and at great sacrifice, having to go abroad for their training supported by no one except their club, their families and the former MBF Secretary  Alexander Zammit , what makes it an even greater story is that these boys had no financial support at all and did it all on their own. These boxers are determined that they will achieve success at any cost.
